The Route

The whole route has been divided into 14 cycling stages and 2 rest days in Fort William and Inverness.

The cycling days have mostly the same schedule : a start early in the morning and cycle the distance at own speed to the next place. The daily distance depends on the profile and the locations of suitable accommodation. It's an average of around 114 kilometres per day. Several stages can also be shortened considerably, so that the daily distance is 10 to 40 kilometers less.

The whole route follows almost everywhere quiet roads where you can enjoy the beautiful Scottish countryside and coastline. The course rolls continuously up and down; never long, but sometimes pretty steep. The tour can be characterised as hilly with roughly 1.300 meters of climbing per day.

At the start in Edinburgh you receive an extensive tour guide with background information about the route.

A GPS which has the option to upload files is essential and very helpful to find the correct way without looking at detailed maps and an overload of instructions.
